Change is quite inevitable, and the same has been evident as logistics business is evolving as the investment in technology by most companies has been well played, boosting efficiency and meet the ever dynamic shippers' expectations. A few changes at the top of third-party logistics companies list were experienced this year, with XPO maintaining their spot at the top of the list for another time since 2017.

There have been insecurities with regards to XPO’s position at the top in the recent past. On Jan 15^th, XPO announced that they were in plans of selling or creating new independent businesses from some of their business units, intending to boost the value for the shareholders. Three months later, the same reviews were brought to a halt due to the widespread coronavirus pandemic that let do drastic drops in the stock market—going ahead with their plans, the 3PL landscape adopted by XPO over a ten years ago. 

XPO has, in the recent past, continued to grow despite considering taking up spinoffs. They even announced the impending move of acquiring most of the UK-based contract logistics operations of Kuenhe + Nagel, who are ranked 10^thin their North American business. Though there were pretty much-limited changes on the list, there were a few tweaks here and there. Mode of Transportation made it to the top 50, occupying position 41, after acquiring SunteckTTS back in December. The company announced that it would be able to handle 1.5 million shipments per year and accrue more than $2 billion in revenue. Mode of Transportation is quite diverse, offering many different modes of transportation, including; truckload, less-than-truckload, rail intermodal, drayage, air, ocean, and parcel freight. 

Two other newcomers were Burris Logistics and Crane Worldwide Logistics occupying No. 43 and 50, respectively. The ranking performed by Transport Topics is based on net revenue, which is the cost of purchased transportation deducted from gross revenue.
