According to reports from WardsAuto.com, Cummins Inc., supplied as high as 35.8% of the
diesel engines used in the first half of 2019. The class 8 engines are divided into those that take
10 liters and over, and those that use less than 10 liters. Cummins dominated with the smaller L9
engine posting an overall lead.

Detroit Corp, on the other hand, posted a lead in the number of engines using 10 liters and over.
Kelly Gedert, director of product marketing for Freightliner trucks and Detroit components, said
that there had been growth in terms of customer acceptance for their integrated solutions. She
added that they also acknowledge the fact that their customers’ value choice in providing what
meets their specific needs.

The report came in handy with a few changes as with regard to Mexico. Mexico's domestic and
export to other countries data were not availed; therefore, there wouldn't be a comparison of data
from North America to the previous years. A Cummins executive claimed that the choice
between truck maker's proprietary powertrains and Cummins' engines is something that had been
in play and didn't seem to change at all.

Neitzke, however, reiterated that the main concern is the fact that data from Mexico domestic
and export to other countries like Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru was not availed, yet the Mexico
market is deemed as significant. He claimed that Cummins does quite well in those regions and
therefore, not having such data is underreporting. He argued that that is the reason they haven't
been keen on it in the present times as they did in the past. The Freightliner data from North
America was incomplete according to reports, the Freightliner being one of the most significant
users of Detroit engines.

Ward’s report shows that the total number of class 8 engines installed in the first half of the year
is at 171,292 in comparison to the previous year’s 141,474, Cummins supplying 61,358 while
Detroit diesel provided 51,023. For the case of engines for 10 liters and over, Detroit Diesel
supplied 31.9% of the engines, at a total of 50,320. Cummins supplied 31.2%, totaling to 49,260
engines. Volvo came in third at 12.3%, a total of 19,419 engines. Paccar Inc. provided 18,660 at
11.8%.

According to Paccar’s CEO, they are increasing their operations to have their capacity rise from
10% to 20 %. Paccar’s trucks are also one of the largest users of Cummins large engines,
utilizing 59.3% of the total, at 29,215 engines. Mack Trucks, on the other hand, used 14,807
large engines. International also registered a high number of users of the large engines from
Cummins, a sum of 14,530, 29.4%.

X15 was introduced in 2016. X12 was availed in 2018 while L9 was introduced in 2017. Neitzke
said that L12 is quite a stepping stone for further growth, being an excellent complement for
X15. For the under 10 liters class 8 engines, Cummins’ L9 engine earned a total of 88%.
Freightliner used the most from Cummins in the lighter category, 7,406.
