Some trucking companies are seeking some exemptions for driver trainers. According to FreightWaves, three truckload companies have put in this request. They want some leeway when it comes to driver trainers. Entry-level driver training is the Batteries in some electric trucks have become a fire risk. As reported by FreightWaves, Volvo and Mack are recalling some of their trucks. The affected trucks are battery-electric trucks. These are trucks from over the past four years. Keeping both truckers and other road users safe is important. Therefore, recalling these trucks is a must-do thing for those affected. They must be fixed before they can hit the road again. The trucks are still new to the market. This means that they might develop some issues here and there.  

Over-torquing 

The recent recalls had an issue related to Over-torquing. The bus bars are the main affected parts. They are an electric junction. They collect electric power and redistribute it. Over-torquing means lots of waste material is left in the battery pack. It may, therefore, lead to a shortage inside the battery pack. The same increases the risk of a fire. Volvo and Mack need to devise a way to ensure the bus bars are working well. In such cases, the drivers get an alert if there is some hint of overheating. In such cases, they must act on it as soon as possible to stop the worst from happening.  

Faulty Battery 

Volvo discovered a faulty battery from a shipment they had sent to the Virginia plant. The rest of the batteries were ok, apart from the one in question. It had a non-spreading fire inside. That discovery led to a safety investigation. This led Volvo and Mack to recall some of their trucks and units. A good number of trucks that they have recalled will have some issues.  

Reports state that there is yet another battery with internal electric arcing issues. Nikola has also had a fair share of these troubles. One of their trucks also caught fire recently. It burnt down a few more trucks, too, as an effect. The battery was faulty and, therefore, led to a fire that caused quite some damage. 

The new technology is quite welcome in any part of the world. However, the users must accept that it will come with a few challenges here and then. For instance, electric battery trucks have already shown a few weaknesses that have led to fires. The manufacturers are, however, called upon to work round the clock to provide solutions. If the issues are fixed, electric trucks will be important to the trucking industry.
