According to FedEx officials, their company's test drone program made quite a
considerable step by completing the first-ever U.S transportation of commercial commodities to
a homestead in Christiansburg, on the 18 th of October. The officials stated that the delivery was
done by Wing Aviation, which is owned by Alphabet Inc. (an autonomous delivery drone
service), working hand in hand with FedEx Express. The commercial drone delivery was first of
its kind in the U.S.
During the trial period, Wind drones will deliver selective packages to homesteads that
merit, within Christiansburg. The Federal Aviation Administration has already handed Wing the
go-ahead to make the first residential drone deliveries. Don Colleran, the president and CEO of
FedEx Express, reiterated that it has always been in their interest to remain innovative in
carrying out their operations, and that's why they are still on toes to see to it that they come up
with even more improved means of delivering goods to their customers. He acknowledged that
the collaboration with Wing would help test their latest innovation of drone delivery in
Christiansburg. The president said that they hope that the novelty would help enhance the last-
mile deliveries, especially for the urgent deliveries, require on a same-day basis, for customers in
rural and semirural areas, inclusive of any other special delivery requirements.
The Wing's pilot program also comes handy with a collaboration with Walgreens,
allowing those participating in making orders of health and wellness products using the Wing's
delivery App. FedEx provides its transportation services to more than 220 countries and
territories.
