FedEx Corp announced on the 20 th of September that they would be hiring 55,000
additional workers to be part of the delivery company for the holiday season. According to
Jonathan Lyons, the spokesman, in order to meet the demands in terms of service delivery during
the holiday, the Memphis Company, has taken the mandate to increase working hours for some
employees and improve the workforce by creating some seasonal positions, as required. He said
that 55,000 workers added will be based at the FedEx Ground Networks to supplement the
450,000 workers already at their disposal.

UPS Inc. also announced earlier in September that they would hire 100,000 workers on a
temporary basis for the holiday shipping season. CEO David Abney, according to his UPS
Biography, also started as a part-time package loader during college days. UPS based in Atlanta
reported that over 35% of the seasonal workers hired for package-handling would be later
absorbed to hold permanent positions.
