Labor and the supply chain go hand in hand. They both depend on each other. For the supply chain to get going, you need a workforce willing to put in shifts. And if the supply chain is entirely at its best, there are plenty of job openings for people. As per an article by FreightWaves, it is clear that employment numbers are not great.  

Quiet Quitting 

Quitting has now become a common trend. Caroline Chumakov was not happy during a recent symposium. She asked the crowd if there would be a stable supply chain. Employee turnover is 33% higher than before the pandemic hit. She added that only a quarter of the employees are highly engaged. She also pointed out that only 16% are willing to put in extra shifts. She said that most of the employees have opted for quiet quitting. 

Quiet quitting explained

Jose Reyes explained quiet quitting using an analogy. He gave the example of an employee who has, in the past, been active in meetings. The employee then becomes inactive in team engagements. Chumakov was blunter. She said that productivity is at its lowest in decades. A survey indicated that such employees cost the economy $7.8 trillion worldwide. 

The main cause of quiet quitting is reduced engagement between employees and their managers. Employees need to have open discussions with their managers and feel safe and trusted at work. These two will prevent quiet quitting. The success of the supply chain depends on putting together different assets. Employees are one of the major assets and, therefore, must be fully on board.  

Alarming rate

Ever since the pandemic hit, the quitting rate has been alarming. Supply chain companies had to come up with creative ways to deal with the same. Working together was one of the ideal solutions. The objective was familiar: to serve the people. Quiet quitting is a thorn in the flesh; supply chain companies must devise ways to remove it. Employees are essential for success; therefore, employers must keep them engaged to eliminate the risk of having disengaged employees.
