Professional truck drivers have turned to mobile apps to make their life on the road easier. Functionalities such as finding and booking loads, communication with both customers and brokers, and route planning are available on the apps. Finding parking slots, eateries, and document processing have all been made easier by mobile apps. Fleet managers, shippers, brokers can manage and monitor freight movement easily.

MOBILE apps made finding loads easier

Shain Ferriss, president of Greenmiles Inc., stated that the mobile apps have made finding loads and serving customers and brokers much easier. The apps have taken the pressure off of carriers and their drivers. One significant advantage of having the apps overuse mobile/emails for communication is that transparency is highly upheld. It is quite satisfying for brokers and customers to monitor the geographical tracking by themselves.

However, vendors and drivers stated that they do not fancy the idea of having to use various apps for different work-related purposes. They, therefore, prefer apps that can offer most of the services on a single platform. That way they can avoid app overload on the devices. Most apps have rapidly experienced growth in the recent past, offering more versatility and services inclusive of insurance. Steven Lopez said that when Trucker Path was developed, it was meant for communication between drivers. Currently, the app helps drivers find parking and offer GPS services for navigation.

According to Kendra Ensor, Truck-specific parking had become a significant concern for the industry. The company truck navigation devices at Rand McNally allow drivers to filter their points of interest, locate parking slots, and access available rest areas. Despite most drivers preferring android, they can also find the apps on the App Store for iPhone users.

Prasad Gollapalli, founder and CEO of Trucker Tools, reiterated that drivers always have to be certain that their points of interest are open before they visit. Information on the apps must be kept up to date at all times to achieve the same. When the pandemic struck, most amenities changed their operation time and introduced new observing protocols. Truckers continually post feedback on places they visit to keep app users informed. Those in doubt are provided with contacts to inquire about service availability.

Truckers have had to offer drivers supporting tools to ensure that they are comfortable attracting new ones and retaining those they have. Drivers can access routes that would provide what they need, for instance, fuel rates, just through the apps. In the recent past, more and more people are getting on board with technology and embracing apps. Since most of the operations are done through the app, all processes, including payments, have become quicker.
