The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced a grant of $47.3 million awarded to local government agencies. The funding aims to finance bridge maintenance projects. The total of 39 Local Bridge Fund grants announced will help maintain structures in 21 counties in New Jersey. New Jersey's Transportation Trust Fund dully supports the grant program.

Phil Murphy, the Governor of New Jersey, is entirely focused on making life better. Through the Local Bridge Fund program, the state can deliver better quality of life, according to Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, an NJDOT Commissioner. Gutierrez-Scaccetti reiterated that through the funding, local governments within the state could invest in infrastructure and offer reliable transportation services efficiently.

Different cities in different states were allocated different amounts to do the maintenance of their structures. Monmouth County was given $5.9 million to replace a bridge that extends through Matawan Creek. Than, Mercer County and Cape May County received $3.2 million and $3 million, respectively. $2.4 million was awarded to Nacote Creek Bridge in the Port Republic. And $1.7 million was allocated to Hudson County for repairs of their bridges that need attention.

NJDOT does run the Local Bridge Fund alongside other programs that support local infrastructure development. NJDOT runs the Local Freight Impact Fund aimed at enhancing truckers' safety while in transit. Another program is the Municipal Aid grant that also funds all projects that fall in the transportation sector.

In short, the grants are mainly meant for the repair, reconstruction, and replacement of bridges that are deemed to have any deficiencies. Research indicated that 7.4% of bridges in New Jersey had structural defects. In conclusion, with the funding availed by the state, most counties would be able to invest more in their infrastructure, making transportation more efficient.
