The brake safety week for 2021 is scheduled for August 22-28. The purpose of the brake safety week is the inspection of the commercial vehicles. The inspections will focus on the importance of brake safety. Vehicles found with any serious violations will be removed from the roads. Apart from the inspection, motor carriers will receive education on safe practices concerning brake safety.

Primary Focus of the Brake Safety Week

The main focus of this year's inspection will be the brake systems and components of the commercial vehicles. In addition, inspectors will collect information on the brake hoses/tubing. The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance receives and then publishes the data collected, as this year's findings.

Why the Brake Safety Inspection

Brakes are one of the essential components of any vehicle. There are various reasons for conducting the brake safety week. The reasons include; most vehicle violations reported in the previous year were all about brake safety violations. It is crucial to uphold safety on the roads to save lives. Brake-related failures and violations accounted for most of the accidents that occurred in 2020.

Another reason brake safety is necessary is that 12% of the 43,565 commercial motor vehicles inspected had issues with their brakes. The federation put those vehicles out of service for those violations. The most common issue was the brake hose/tubing, an essential part of the braking system.

The primary aim of the brake safety week is to safeguard the lives of road users. August 22-28 is the date set for the forthcoming inspection. Reports indicated that it's more effective when they announce the inspection dates in advance. It allows motor carriers to take their time to ensure their vehicles are in good working condition. Besides the inspections, there will be education on brake safety awareness.
