Although there is evidence of high stability amongst the Top 100 Private Carriers List, the
rankings also depict some evident changes in the competitive food distribution and oil field
sector. Some showed some great development; for instance, US Foods rose to No. 3 on the list of
the private fleets in North America from No. 6 the previous year. The ascent came after they
increased the tractor count by more than 30% to 6,968. US Foods rose past Walmart at No. 4 but
could only close in on an adversary, Sysco Corp. which maintained its position at No. 2, with a
fleet of 8,544.

Mergers are also playing quite a significant role in terms of shaping the competitiveness of the
private carriers. United Nations Food Inc. also experienced growth as it rose to No. 23 from No.
36 the previous year, after they acquired Supervalu in October 2018. UNFI now has a fleet of
1,355. In the energy sector, another major deal is cooking.

A planned merger between C&J Energy Services and Keane Group, expected to be done and
dusted in the third quarter, will undoubtedly lead to the creation of one oil field giant. C&J ranks
at No. 13 with a fleet of 2,364 tractors while Keane is at position 27 with 1,201 tractors.
According to Robert Drummond, the CEO of Keane, merging two equals, results in a higher
portfolio of completing services well throughout the U.S. He added that the new firm would
invest technology and innovation heavily.

United Rentals, continued with its ascension, landing at position 12 from No. 15 last year and
No. 24 two years ago. The supplier of the rental equipment received a significant boost after
acquiring both Blueline Rental and BakerCorp International Holdings back in 29018. United
Rentals now has a private fleet of 2,774 tractors, 3,121 trailers, and 5,213 trucks.

Other carriers on the rise include; Helena Agri-Enterprises that moved from No. 35 to No. 14 on
a fleet of 2,054, Cudd Energy moving from No. 70 to No. 18 with 1,664 tractors and CRH
America that rose to No. 41 from position 92 a year ago with a fleet of 889 tractors. There were
also some new faces in the Top 100 List. Keane Group at 27, while Nine Energy at No. 65.
Messer Americas was at No. 61 after the acquisition of the North American gases business of
Linde in March.

Others new carriers on the list include; Ecology Auto Parts at No. 83, SpartanNash at No. 87,
and Colombia Distributing at No. 96. Domino’s Pizza also made it to the list at No. 88 with a
fleet of 517 tractors.
